While there are a number of digital only repeater systems - these are generally only related to the digital standard Tetra. These devices are designed to expand the coverage of the Tetra network.

Gencom can set up solutions to transfer the received Tetra signals to rebroadcast in analog via an analog gateway. This allows legacy analog devices to connect to the network. It should be pointed out though that by incorporating an analog gateway in any digital system compromises the security of the digital communications network  to some extent. Transmission made originally in  digital mode are unable to be scanned by eavesdroppers, however the moment that signal is rebroadcast in analog, it is open to being scanned.

Apart from Tetra, the Hybrid solutions from most manufacturers are really designed first and foremost for digital operations. P25, IDAS and Nexedge repeaters are all available to suit the particular network protocol employed. IDAS & Nexedge are protocol trade names of Icom & Kenwood respectively.
